The Volunteer Fire Department of Brandywine was established in 1955, and has continued to provide Volunteer Fire and Emergency Medical Services ever since. Our primary service area includes Brandywine, Cheltenham, and Mutual Aid to Charles County. We also respond to Aquasco, Baden, Clinton, Upper Marlboro, Accokeek, and farther depending on the need for EMS, fire and rescue services. Brandywine is just one of several companies that provide mutual aid to Charles County. Our first due area has a population of approximately 18,000 citizens and growing. The Brandywine, Cheltenham and 301 corridor continue to grow at a brisk pace moving in new businesses and housing which has increased the demands for service. Through all of the area and population changes our Volunteers have remained dedicated to their mission. Our department is part of the Maryland State Fireman's Association and the Prince Georges County Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association. For the 2005 - 2006 Session of the Prince Georges County Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association our company president Ronnie "Reds" Wilkinson served on the Board of Directors representing the 5th District. 2005 was our Anniversary celebrating 50 years of Volunteer Service to our community. Our Officers and Members also paid tribute to Cecil I. Peyton, a Charter Member and Volunteer who provided 50 years of active volunteer service to the community, an act of dedication that is rarely seen. We hosted the 83rd Annual Prince Georges County Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association Convention and 75th Annual Prince Georges County Ladies Auxiliary Convention. The convention was an overwhelming success, and we received many compliments on a job well done. 2006 found the Brandywine Volunteers pulling double duty by being part of the convention again. The 2006 convention was hosted by the 7th Battalion which includes, Brandywine Station 40, Clinton Station 25, Marlboro Stations 20 / 45, and Baden Station 36 Station 40 has volunteers that offer their services free of charge to the citizens of Brandywine and the surrounding areas. We are Volunteers who are Proud of the Professional Service we provide to our community and surrounding areas. Our volunteers are well trained and certified volunteers who re-certify yearly and serve as Volunteer Firefighters, and EMT's, and Officers, saving the citizens and tax payers millions of dollars each year. The business side of the department is handled by our Administrative Members, many of whom are retired from area departments, and have extensive fire service experience. The station has a variety of volunteer owned and insured apparatus including Engine 401 a 1987 Hahn, Engine 402 also a 1987 Hahn, Rescue Squad 40 a 1993 Pierce Arrow, and BX 40 a 1988 Ford F 350 4 x 4 Brush Unit. Rescue Engine 40 our newest member of the fleet was manufactured by Seagrave. ALL of this apparatus is Volunteer Purchased, Volunteer Owned and Volunteer Insured against damage. Our station is also Volunteer Owned! In 2007 the Volunteer Fire Department of Brandywine by tying into the Cruise In the Southside with Brandywine Volunteers nights, was able to gain the first every sponsorship of a fire department by Mothers Polishes Waxes and Cleaners. Mothers on top of the sponsorship provides the department with a Budget to purchase Polishes Waxes and Cleaners, but also provides signs, T Shirts, Door Prizes and more to us. Help us keep this sponsorship by attending the Cruise In nights. Details can be seen on our Cruise In page. WE WANT ALL OF OUR CITIZENS in the community and surrounding areas to know, Prince Georges County Residence DO NOT PAY taxes to directly fund the fire department, and despite the Prince Georges County Councils Report sent to citizens of this county that we are financially sound, that is WRONG. Funds dedicated to the VOLUNTEER Corporations of this county were slashed by order of the Fire Chief, under direction of the County Council and County Executive. Furthermore the Volunteer corporations of this county who rent their halls such as Brandywine have been denied the required permits to continue to rent them to ensure recent apparatus purchases stay in their communities, continue to be purchased and serving the community. This is being done despite the fact VOLUNTEERS save Prince Georges County MILLIONS of dollars EVERY year in man hours, and apparatus purchases. OVER 90% of the fire and rescue apparatus in Prince Georges County is volunteer purchased, owned, and insured, and now your county Fire Chief, Council and County Executive are endangering the ownership and future purchases of this invaluable apparatus, citing unproven concerns for personnel as their justification. SUPPORT YOUR VOLUNTEERS by letting the County Executive, and County Council know you support your fire department, and are opposed to the budget cuts and denial of permits. We hold Company Drills on the First and Third Monday of each month at 7 p.m., Business Meetings are on the Second and Fourth Monday of each month at 8 p.m. Board of Directors Meetings are held on the Third Monday of each month at 7:30 pm |
